Ballycullen

Ballycullen (Irish: Baile Uí Chuillinn) is a townland and suburb of Dublin, Ireland situated next to Knocklyon.

Location

Ballycullen is a townland in the civil parish of Tallaght,[1] located in Dublin 16 and Dublin 24. Part of Ballycullen is in Dublin 24. Part of Ballycullen is South of Old Court Road.

Ballycullen, (D16) Knocklyon (D16) and Firhouse (D24) all adjoin each other and the two defining borders are Ballycullen Road, Old Court Road, Dale Tree Road and Gunny Hill.[citation needed]

Ballycullen is served by Dublin Bus routes 15, 49 and 65b.

Developments

The most significant recent development[original research?] has been the adaption of the Ballycullen/Old Court Development Plan. Some[who?] saw this as a good opportunity to say that Ballycullen was actually in Old Court or that parts of Firhouse were in Ballycullen.[clarification needed] As an example, planning applications for houses "South" of Old Court Road have been submitted with the address "South of Old Court Road, Firhouse, Dublin 24" while the brochures of the sales agent say they are in Dodder Brook, Ballycullen ?[tone] They might as well say[tone] Donnybrook, Newbridge. Beechdale, Oakdale and any other dale that is on the Firhouse side of Daletree Road as you approach its junction with Old Court is in Firhouse.[tone]

Ballycullen was known to all the new arrivals to the area during the building boom of the early 1970s as Ballycullen Farm. Ballycullen Farms today operate from Dunshaughlin but during their time here before the Urban Spread their farm was well known to all the residents, mainly because of the Brooks family who managed it.[citation needed] There was a long winding lane from Ballycullen Road to the house and the weeds were kept down by the constant thread of feet from GAA, Community Centre, Scouts, Summer Project, Soccer and every other organization looking for sponsorship for events being held by all the new projects that started with the new developments. Ballycullen Farms are now gone but their generosity and help that was always forthcoming from Mr Brooks will always be remembered.[citation needed]
