Arekere is a residential area on Bannerghatta Road in South Bangalore. The origin of the name "Arekere" comes from a water reservoir which is in the area. Are in Kannada means half. Kere in Kannada means a water reservoir or pond.

Some of the well developed residential areas within Arekere are: Arekere Mico Layout, which is a BDA layout developed in the late 1970s, Pandurangnagar, adjacent to Mico layout, Shantiniketan layout and Sarvabhoumanagar. Some of the schools in this area are BGS National Public School, Mitra Academy, Adigas Preschool, and Bright Kids.

The area has developed fast since the year 2000 due to a large number of IT, BPO companies. Well known hospitals, Apollo Hospitals and Fortis Hospital have come up nearby.[1]IIM Bangalore is half a kilometre away from this area.

There is a Mini Forest, Ganesh Temple and a playground within Arekere-Mico Layout.
